Man, I fricking love the AvP comics, the first film (second was poo) and the separate Aliens and Predator franchises. I find it difficult to get excited about this game tho, given all the disappointments that the franchise has served up since the rather excellent originals.

As to the super duper special bells and whistles edition – I agree with Mark that it frankly smacks of a missed opportunity. This is one of the best sci fi franchises ever, backed up by one of the worlds most successful publishers, and the best that they can do is a steelbook with a patch and a plastic facehugger. What about a predator mask? A shoulder cannon? Or the funky wrist piece? This is just the height of mediocrity in special editions, and to be frank, with the lack of funds that I (and I suspect most of the gaming community) have in these recession hit days, we need a lot more bang for that much buck.

All the above being said, if I had a PS3 (and a truckload of spare cash) I would seriously consider importing the PS3 US edition to get the hardback comic – the Dark Horse AvP comics were frankly awesome.

Exactly, Ben – there are so many other top games out in 2010 that the money would be better spent elsewhere. It seems far to easy to do the rinse/repeat of ’steelbook, statue, and soundtrack’ for a so called special edition with precious little variation

Had high hopes for this one, was hoping that any statue would be that of an Alien head (I think one of the film boxset’s had one), don’t like the Facehugger one too much.

Bit of a disappointment for me this one and with an absolute crap ton of games next year it may be a case of regular edition while money for a nice special gets reserved for else where.

In the grand scheme of things… it’s not really very impressive, is it? When you consider the backing that the AVP series must have from the associated studios, and the clout that both franchises have in Hollywood… this set just falls flat on its arse.

OK, so it’s better than the Fallout box with a dodgy soldier, or the Japanese Dragon Age box with the dishtowel and MDF box but if they can bring out AWESOME box sets for DVDs and BluRay then why not for games?

The closest thing we’ve really had to an awesome set was the Call Of Duty MW2 set with the bloody night vision goggles, but the set itself was pants and it was JUST the goggles that were enticing.
